White's Tree Frog Care Sheet

Description

White's Tree Frogs originate from North-East Australia and Papua New Guinea. These frogs can reach a size of up to 4 inches and have a quite stout build. Keep frogs of the same size together and provide with a woodland enclosure including a large water bowl. As a member of the Tree Frog family, the White's Tree Frog spends most of its time clinging to plants, vines and the sides of its enclosure. However, occasionally you will see them soaking themselves in their water bowl. This is essential for them to maintain their protective coating.

Housing

In order to keep a pair or trio of White's Tree Frogs, we recommend a 60 x 45 x 45 cm Exo Terra Glass Terrarium or equivalent. These come with a high quality, natural effect background, which the Tree Frogs happily climb on. As well as this, they are ideal because their easy access doors allow the owner to access the enclosure reducing the risk of an escapee. The enclosure should be decorated with plenty of climbing opportunities such as Exo Terra Jungle Vines and plastic plants. Shady areas where they can rest during the daytime (as these frogs are nocturnal) is also beneficial. A large water bowl should be provided so that they can soak themselves in.

Lighting

Although lighting is not essential with this species of Tree Frog, nonetheless you may wish to provide some for your own viewing benefit. Additionally, to add further character to the enclosure, the incorporation of a Exo Terra Night Glo Lamps (which provide a blue light at night) is highly recommended.

Temperature and Humidity

These frogs should be given a temperature of 73 - 82°f with 60-70% humidity. Spray daily to help maintain the humidity. Another way to maintain humidity would be to add a waterfall and fogger system (both relatively inexpensive) which also adds character to the enclosure.

Feeding

White's Tree Frogs should be fed on a diet of Small Hoppers or Small Crickets. If you purchase your Tree Frogs from ourselves we can also advise you as to the particular food we have been feeding them. They should be fed every other day. As the White's Tree Frog is a larger Tree Frog species, it is also beneficial to feed defrosted pinky mice, but sparingly. We would recommend feeding nomore than one pinky mouse to each frog per a month.
